This past weekend I had the awesome privilege to attend a workshop put on by actor/screenwriter Ken Farmer and his partner in crime Buck Stienke. I say privilege because both gentlemen are professionals in the writing business. Ken has been in numerous movies such as The Newton Boys, Silverado, and Friday Night Lights. Both Buck and Ken have written for film and television.
I traveled to Corinth, Texas to listen to them tell you "the truth" about the writing business. The focus of the workshop was creating realistic dialogue and making your characters relatable both in your novel and screenplay. At first I was a little worried. What if they told me that what I had done was crap and to just leave? What if they told me that I will never see my stuff become reality so go ahead and quit? In the end, I found out that I'm going to have to work really hard if I ever want to see my screenplays on film or television. But I also learned that it's all worth the tears and frustration to see yourself succeed.
I know that I will be at the next workshop they offer, sorry Ken and Buck!! You can't get rid of me that easy!! I suggest you check out Ken's book Acting is Storytelling. It has a lot of great information.
I will keep you updated on the progress of both my novel and screenplay!!
