This weekend I had the time to query a few agents for my Dust manuscript. (Check out Current Projects). For those of you who aren't into the publishing world, it's not that easy to have a book hit the bookshelves of Barnes and Noble. Now there are books out there that I have no idea how they made it through the cut, but that doesn't mean that the author is making money off of them. My goal is to be able to make this a career, and so I will persue those agents that I think will help me get there. The only problem: the waiting game. All of the websites say from 3-12 weeks to return your e-mail query. What?? I have to wait that long?? But I feel that they just want to make sure that they give everyone the attention they deserve. Plus, they get about 100 e-mails a day!! I guess the waiting game begins. But good things come to those who wait!!
The most important thing I learned at the DFW Writers' Conference this past weekend was building my brand online. This website is my first step in making my dreams come true.
Ever since I was a little girl I've wanted to be a writer. I would ask my mom for paper, pens, and journals for my birthday presents. She would look at me like I was crazy and ask if I wanted anything else like dolls or clothes and I would say no. Building my brand is the first step into breaking out into the writing world. Look out!! Here I come!! |
