Bookworm Review: This book has been out for awhile, copyright 2008, and I've been drawn to it since I saw the cover (it also helps that Bushnell is the author of Sex in the City). At first I was a little lost because you're introduced to so many chracters right away. There also isn't a break in between character's point of views. One paragraph you are in the mind of Billy, and then switch to Lola, and then back to Billy, and then on to James. Once you start reading it, though, it gets a lot easier to read and follow. Sometimes I had to reread a paragraph to make sure I knew who I was supposed to be. Overall, I really enjoyed the book and look forward to reading more like it! You really do feel for the characters and are swallowed into their lives.
One Fifth Avenue isn't just an address in New York, it's a lifestyle. People dream of living there (the smallest apartment goes for over one million dollars), and they will do whatever it takes to get there. Some lie, cheat, or sleep their way in, while some might even kill to stay. This book brings it's readers into the lives of the residents of One Fifth and the struggles they go through to stay up-to-date with the ever changing social ladder of New York.

Melissa is at it again, but this time she's taking over New York City. Jonathan has moved back to help sell his ex-wife's apartment and Melissa is asked to go with him on what's supposed to be a holiday from work. But it doesn't take long for her to find a lost soul to help out and, of course, trouble is not far behind. Bookworm Review: I really do feel that Melissa and I could be best friends forever. I know exactly how she feels about helping others no matter the cost. She's just a sweet girl who tries to do the right thing, even if it's not the most popular choice. I really liked the ending because it shows Melissa finally putting herself first. I guess you will have to read it to find out what happens!! I will absolutely pass this book on to my friends and family and now I'm really looking forward to reading the next book with Melissa! And who would have thought that I would enjoy a series that I just randomly selected off the shelves of Barnes and Noble? If you like Shopaholic, then you will love this series too! The three novellas follow three different characters that all share the same problem: hardship. The first novella introduces J, a boy living on his own who meets someone from the "other side of the fence" just to be drug back into a life on the streets. The second is about a girl named Jo-Jo who finds comfort from "Him and Her" through three little dogs. And the last novella is about Jaime and his older brother Erik who are runaways just trying to fly under the government's radar. All three novellas show that things aren't always perfect and the will to survive is still out there. Bookwork Review: Do you need a good cry? Then this is the book for you. I teach 7th grade and in the state of Texas we have an award called the Lonestar award. It consists of books chosen by teachers, students, and librarians that represent the best books for teens. I've decided that I should read all of the books on the list this year so I can better relate to my students. This book made me cry! You want good things to happen for these characters, but of course Paulsen must write a tue story. Be prepared with a box of tissues while you read this!! A must read for educators!! Megan Smith, a Yale graduate finds herself unemployed and out of money. When she's given the opportunity to tutor some rich girls, she can't pass it up. If she only knew what she was getting herself into. The Baker twins are not the easiest heiresses to work with, let alone teach. What Megan didn't anticipate was how much she was going to learn from them. Bookworm Review: I found this book at the bottom of the bargain bin at my local Kroger and I thought I'd give it a try. Boy am I glad I did! I couldn't put it down! I read it in two days and I loved every word of it. I felt sorry for Megan, cared about the twins, and hoped that everything would work out. I was crying at the end of it, which means it was very well written. I love books that make you care so much for the characters that you hope and pray that everything works out for them. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good chick-flick. Apprently this book was made into a television series on the CW called Privilaged, but I never saw it. Maybe I can catch the reruns online!! Angela Fournier is trying to make a new life with her mother and younger sister in Texas after her parents divorce. On the first day she meets two new friends, but not everyone is as nice as them. The "mean girls" aren't very welcoming to her. Soon Angela and her friends uncover something from higher up that they feel needs to be set right. Will they stand up for what's right even if that means fighting those with higher power? Bookworm Review: At first I wasn't sure about how the book was going to be. I teach middle school kids and sometimes the dialogue just didn't seem very real to me. The kids in the story are honors students, so I can see why some of their vocabulary is a little higher than what I'm used to. But after reading more into the story, I started to really get into the plot. Angela is a character that I think tween readers (who are upper-level kids) would relate to. Standing up for something that you believe in is a great message for teens and I think that this story hit that message out of the ballpark. I will definitely pass this on to my students who are looking for a story with strong characters and a great message. There's something different about Alexis Rain. She's drawn to the night, knows everything, and can transport herself anywhere in the world in the blink of an eye. Alongside her best friend Keats, Alexis is thrown into the world of Ancient Greek gods and demigods. Her life will never be the same. Bookworm Review: I LOVED this book!! I met Stegall at one of my writers' conferences and thought he was a really cool guy. And I wasn't wrong! His book made me laugh, freak out, and then cry like a little girl. The writing was fantastic and I was drawn into the story from the very beginning. I usually gravitate to teen novels with really strong female characters and this one met my expectations. I know my students will love this book and I plan on spreading it around to all of my librarian friends. If you like Percy Jackson, you will love this book too!! You can buy it on Amazon in Kindle format as well. I can't wait to read the next book with Alexis and Keats!! Stephanie Plum, bounty hunter, is on the move again. This time she's looking for a criminal who failed to appear in court, and it just so happens to be one of her grandma's ex-boyfriends. You'd think that an elderly guy would be easy to track down and capture, but this guy isn't any normal citizen. And you can't forget about the wedding Stephanie is planning, well sorta. Bookworm Review: Of course I love my Stephanie, so I have nothing but praises for this book. You'd think that after seven books I'd be tired of the same characters, but I'm not! I was really disapointed that the bookstore I was at didn't have number eight, but I guess that means I need to try soemthing else for awhile. I loved the book and I absolutely love the characters!! Stephanie Plum is at it again. No matter what she does, or who she goes after, she always gets herself into some kind of trouble. This time Ranger's the one in hot water and he recruits Stephanie to help him out. Stephanie finds herself beingfollowed by two scary (but funny), dudes and her enemy Joyce, all looking for Ranger. To make matters worse, Grandma decides to move in with her and she gets a dog named Bob dumped on her. Bookworm Review: I know I'm a little behind in the series, but I just can't get enough of Stephanie Plum. Everytime I need something that will make me laugh out loud, I pick up a Janet Evanovich novel. I love the way she writes and I love how I get all hot and steamy when Morelli is around. I've already started book number seven and I can't wait to see what happens next. A must read!! Melissa has been fired yet again, and her life seems to be going nowhere both in life and love. And to top it all off, her dad is a major political figure and her younger sister is getting married before her. Melissa decides to use her gifts of shopping and party throwing to start her own agency, helping bachelors navigate their social lives. She think she finally has her life together until she falls for one of her clients. Bookworm Review: I randomly picked this book off the shelf of Barnes and Noble, something I like to do on occasion, and I'm so glad I did! There were times where I was so upset with Melissa that I wanted to scream! And then there were times where all I wanted to do was cuddle up on the couch and cry. What does that mean? Hester Browne did a fabulous job of making me care deeply for her characters. A must read for everyone!! I can't wait to go and get the next book!! Veronica is constantly being mistaken for pop sensation Hailey Rush- in the grocery store, out to eat with friends, and even Hailey's own manager is fooled! When Hailey's manager offers to pay Veronica to pretend she's Hailey, she has no reason not to! Things aren't always fun and fabulous for Veronica, but at least she gets to pretend to date Hailey's super hot boyfriend Brady Ellis. Bookworm Review: I loved this book. I thought it was well written and a fun read. I'm obsessed with celebrities, so it was fun to live the life of one through a book. But like all celebrity stories, things aren't always as fun as they look. I would recommend this to anyone! |
